  34. My interpretation of that section is that in order for a LanMan client
  35. (your NT or WFW box) to access the file system of a Samba host (your UNIX
  36. box), the LanMan client must at least be running a TCP/IP stack.  If the
  37. LanMan client is to access the file systems of other, "typical" LanMan
  38. hosts on your network, you must also run NetBEUI.
  39.  
  40. I can support my supposition that Samba does not use NetBEUI a least three 
  41. ways without citing Samba server source code:
  42.  
  43.     1.  I have never added NetBEUI packet handling or routing 
  44.     support to any of the SunOS 4.1.x kernels here, but all the Suns are 
  45.     Samba hosts, and are all visible to all the LanMan clients that
  46.     are running TCP/IP stacks.
  47.  
  48.     2.  A quick look at /etc/inetd.conf and /etc/services on the Unix
  49.     boxes reveals that the two Samba daemons, smbd and nmbd, are
  50.     simply tcp and udp services that monitor ports 137 and 139.
  51.      
  52.     3.  I can have complete access to a Samba host from the file manager 
  53.     of an  NT machine that only has TCP/IP networking services
  54.     installed - No NetBEUI or anything else.
